Cheesy Potato Casserole with Ham Recipe

This cheesy potato casserole recipe has never failed to delight. Tasty and also easy to bake, it is one of the favorite cheesy potato casserole recipes in my arsenal. This cheesy potato casserole is best eaten with hot rolls or biscuits.

Ingredients:

  • 6 cups of potatoes
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 9 tablespoons of butter
  • ½ cup of chopped onion
  • ½ cup of flour
  • 3 cups of sliced cooked ham
  • 3 cups of milk
  • 12 oz of shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 ½ tablespoon of chopped parsley
  • 1 ½ cup of fresh bread crumbs

Preparation:

  1. Pour the potatoes into a saucepan and add water till the potatoes are submerged. Add a teaspoon of salt and boil.
  2. Melt 6 tablespoons of butter in another saucepan, halve and add the garlic cloves and heat for about 1-2 minutes. Take out the garlic.
  3. Add the chopped onion and cook the mixture till the onion becomes soft. Also, pour in the flour, stir and cook until the mixture is even and starts bubbling. Pour in the milk while still stirring till it becomes thick.
  4. Pour in 8 oz of the cheese and the ham and cook while stirring till the cheese melts. Add the parsley and the potatoes and stir till the cheese completely coats the potatoes. Pour the mixture into your casserole dish and lightly sprinkle the remaining 4 oz of cheese.
  5. Melt the remaining butter, mix with the bread crumbs and sprinkle over the casserole. Bake for about 30 minutes in a preheated oven at 350 degrees.

Bring the cheese potato casserole out of the oven and cool for about 10 minutes before serving
